Goals:
1. “Out of Many – One”
- Although an individual sport, every athlete is part of the larger team. Success comes when EVERYONE does their part. Every athlete who puts forth the effort in the preparation for meets will compete in every meet available at his or her level.
-
- All conference meets, and state tournament, are the focus of the season both for training and performances.
- Invites are essential in building championship caliber teams by fine-tuning and experimenting with events and line-ups.
- We will score as many points in every meet that we can that makes sense in the “big picture” for the whole season; including defending titles for the girls at the Brown Deer Invite; and the boys at the Pius Indoor Invite, Greendale Invite and Brown Deer Invite.
Policies:
1. All athletes are subject to the athletic code of Pius XI.
2. Practice is mandatory. Unexcused absences will result in Meet Suspensions.
- Acceptable excuses are provided prior to practice (at least 24 hours before),
- Excuses are NOT delivered by another student.
- Acceptability of excuse is coaches’ decision. Contact Coach Hartwig if your son or daughter will not be at practice as early as possible.
- Appropriate attire is necessary for practice and meets.
- Track & field attire: proper shoes, warm-ups for meet and practice, uniform for meets.
3. Practice will typically be held everyday at 3:30 sharp (even A-days), unless otherwise notified. Practice throughout March will be on a rotation. See attached schedule.
- Typically there will be practice on the days of meets for non-competitors.
4. Letter winners will be determined by the coaching staff at the end of the season.
Apparel:
1. Shoes are the most important equipment track & field athletes have. There are two types of shoes – Practice shoes and Competition shoes. Practice shoes provide the support and cushion for the everyday rigors of training and should not be worn as “walking” shoes. Competition shoes are very specialized and should be purchased before the start of the outdoor season. Without “spikes” for runners and jumpers athletes are at a tremendous disadvantage.
2. Athletes will be provided a competition uniform that will be turned in the day of the athlete’s last competition. Failure to turn in the uniform immediately will result in a bill for $60.
3. Attached is the warm-up order form for athletes. All athletes are expected to wear these warm-ups for every MEET they attend. The design is the same as last year so if last year’s warm-ups are in good condition it is not necessary to purchase a set this year.
4. Practice apparel should reflect the weather conditions we face. If it is possible to be outside for practice we will be. Therefore, use of lockers with “sweats” stored for daily use will be provided, athletes provide their own locks.
5. Athletes selected to compete in the pole vault will be required to purchase a helmet. More information will be provided by Coach Lee.
Transportation:
1. Athletes will be provided with transportation to school day meets on a drop-off only basis. Parents are expected to provide transportation home from meets. An athlete may transport himself or herself to a meet, but NO OTHER ATHLETES.
2. Pius will NOT PROVIDE transportation for weekend or non-school day meets
Schedules:
1. Practice schedule and Meet schedule are attached. There may be some additions in the Junior Varsity and Freshmen level as more opportunities may arise throughout the course of the season.
Fundraising:
1. With budget crunches that have occurred over the last year it has been become necessary for the track teams to fundraise. The fundraiser information is attached. The fundraiser will be used to pay for new uniforms for both boys and girls teams, equipment purchases, and an investment in an automatic timing system that will be used at Pius home meets in the future.
